Coraline by DoroxDoro Coraline by DoroxDoro
a little fan art of Coraline
Coraline is a fantasy/horror novel by British author Neil Gaiman and has been adapted into a 2009 stop-motion film directed by Henry Selick.
I've make the texture with a texture found on the web and some other texture created by me with ecoline and after I 've put a touch of photoshop.

wow...more than 100 fav in 10 hours from the submission of this pic... thank you guys!

This is a really lovely piece! I think your colors are very nice, and you have an ultimately homogenous color palette which helps tie your elements together. However, I am going to have to critique your anatomical errors since no one seems to have noticed that there is something obviously wrong with this girl's body...

You've made Coraline in a very believable pose, but her lower body is MUCH too short for her torso and upper body. In fact, you have given this poor girl the shortest lower legs in the world! Her knees are much too low for the length of leg she needs in order to, well, stand... Something that you should keep in mind... I realize that there is a fair bit of foreshortening going on in this pose, but not enough to exaggerate her limbs the way you have fashioned them.

I was checking your proportions on the upper half of her body and it appears that everything seems to be more or less proportionate to the other anatomical elements, but when compared to the lower half, it seems you've chopped a great deal of this girl down. I would say possibly mapping out the figure before you start to draw, or possibly even posing yourself or a friend in the pose you are imagining! There is no harm in using reference, especially reference from live models that you took yourself.

You have a great deal of talent. Don't let something so small as some anatomical error hold you back. Be the best that you can. People in the art world can--and will--tear you apart for things of this nature. You may have a pretty picture, but a trained eye can pick out all of your flaws in an instant.

This is just a friendly reminder. Good luck with your future work! :)
